Guidelines of Application for Commonwealth of Learning (COL) Sponsorship for Participation in the 28th Annual Conference of the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU)

The Commonwealth of Learning (COL) has kindly agreed with the Conference Secretariat of the 28th Annual Conference of AAOU to provide sponsorship support to young delegates from open and distance learning (ODL) institutions from developing Asian Commonwealth nations for attending the Conference. The following conditions will apply for granting the fund:

  • The grant will be given to 10 delegates who register for the whole of the conference (28 - 30 October 2014).
  • The delegates must be at or below the age of 45.
  • The delegates must come from Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Pakistan or Sri Lanka.
  • Preference will be given to young or mid-career practitioners (rather than policy makers) of distance education who have not had the opportunity to attend the conference in the past.
  • The Conference Secretariat will seek to ensure greater participation of women as required by the sponsorship.
  • The delegate must use the funds (CAD500 per delegate supported) to defray the conference’s registration fees and local accommodation, but not travel.
  • Only delegates whose abstracts have been accepted for oral presentation at the Conference will be eligible.

Application procedure

Please download (Word / PDF) and complete the Application Form. A completed application form should be submitted to the Conference Secretariat of the 28th Annual Conference of AAOU through email: aaou2014@ouhk.edu.hk. All applications will be forwarded to a designated committee for consideration.

Funding arrangement for each successful applicant

  1.   The applicant will have to be responsible for his or her travel cost (e.g. airfare).
  2.   The grant per delegate supported (CAD500) will defray the early bird registration fee (US$280); and the difference will be granted from the second day of the Conference (29 October 2014) to the applicant for him or her to compensate fully or partly his or her own expense on local accommodation.

Application for COL sponsorship should be submitted by: 20 August 2014
